“Give, but give until it hurts.” - Mother Teresa

One thing we love to do most at Green Skies is promote the local nonprofits doing exceptional work to push society forward. It’s a blessing to have organizations that give cheerfully and accept gratefully, supporting missions that hold true to each and everyone of us. If you’re looking to get involved, educate yourself or donate, here’s 5 nonprofits making an impact!

Wheels4Hope

Wheels4Hope is a faith-based organization in the Triangle with a unique program built to help those in financial turmoil: “turning donated cars into local blessings.” This nonprofit’s mission is to provide affordable, reliable transportation to families and individuals who are economically vulnerable. Reliable transportation is a vital resource to have in order to be self-reliant, maintain a steady job, care for children and seek other fulfilling needs. Through their strong partnerships in the Triangle and Greensboro communities, Wheels4Hope has changed over 3,000 lives.

Books with Barbers

Books with Barbers is a game-changer to say the least. This nonprofit is building the nation’s first literacy program maintained and organized in barbershop communities. This team seeks to bridge the reading gap that is currently negatively impacting the African American community. Donations received go to purchasing books, bookshelves, small seating areas that are housed within each partnering barbershop. There’s nothing like pushing society forward by educating children and offering them resources to flourish.

Pardoned by Christ

Pardoned by Christ is dedicated to improving the lives of those affected by incarceration. Inmates and families are often bankrupt and on the hunt to fulfill their lives financially and spiritually. This team is helping to flip that quality of life around by facilitating with ministry events, bible studies, mentorship meet-ups, and financial assistance. Pardoned by Christ partners with churches to help expand these opportunities while also providing a transitional home for men as they adapt to life’s everyday moments.

North Carolina Voters for Clean Elections

Former NC Governor, Jim Hunt once said “The arms race for money that drives our campaigns threatens the concept of one person, one vote.” Founded in 1999, NCVCE’s mission is to improve the life of democracy in NC by enacting a voluntary public financing program for state-level candidates who earn the public’s trust. Why is this needed? Without clean elections, we’re getting less democracy for more money spent. This nonprofit promotes public campaign financing so that we can continue improving the state election process and expand state-level voter power.

Carroll’s Kitchen

This one might leave you hungry! Carroll’s Kitchen is a nonprofit restaurant dedicated to ending homelessness for women in Raleigh, NC. This nonprofit offers a women’s program taking them through job training, learning basic life skills, and aiding towards housing. This nonprofit seeks to build the whole women - mind, body and spirit - and offers a support system to better instill confidence and self-reliance in these individuals. Their restaurant is located in downtown Raleigh and also offers catering services.
